Get a night of fun and food in Findlay Kitchen with Communiversity cooking classes in partnership with The Jaded Fork.
Chef Lindsey Cook aptly named her catering company that specializes in using locally- sourced ingredients, The Jaded Fork. Cook’s creations, such as potato tuna croquettes, brown sugar and black pepper goetta, and blueberry beignets, liven up any event catered by The Jaded Fork.
Communiversity offers those looking to broaden their palettes the opportunity to learn how to make some of Cook’s recipes with four new cooking classes: Cooking with Coffee; Raviolis and Romance; Beginners Guide to Cooking with Herbs, Spices, and Seasonings; Meat and Knives: The Basics of Butchering; and Mindful Meal Prep. All classes take place in Findlay Kitchen, a nonprofit food business incubator located near historic Findlay Market.
Cooking with Coffee lets students experience the exciting world of craft coffee with Cincinnati’s master roaster, Chuck Pfahler as he teams up with Cook. In this class, Cook will guide students through making an appetizer, main dish, and dessert—all of which infuse coffee into the dish. Pfahler will pair each dish with the perfect cup of coffee, including unique espresso-infused cocktails. Students will make their own savory coffee rub to take home. Cooking with Coffee takes place Jan. 24.
Those looking for a unique date night idea for Valentine’s Day don’t need to look further than Raviolis and Romance. Cook invites Garrison Jennings of Russo’s Raviolis to the special date night cooking class to demonstrate and assist with custom ravioli making. Each attendee will get to prepare their own appetizer, pasta entrée with sauces and enjoy a special Valentine’s dessert by The Jaded Fork. A complimentary champagne toast will start the night off and local beer and wine will be available for purchase throughout the class. Raviolis and Romance takes place Feb. 14.
Master the art of seasoning in Beginners Guide to Cooking with Herbs, Spices, and Seasonings. The course includes a guided tasting through dozens of spices, seasonings and herbs. Cook will demonstrate through a variety of cooking techniques and applications why food always tastes just a little bit better with some seasoning. Prepare a combination of appetizer and entrée dishes to identify the what, when and whys of proper seasoning, and customize your very own barbecue seasoning blend to take home. The class takes place on March 16.
Get an introduction to the basics of butchering techniques in Meat and Knives: The Basics of Butchering as you practice chicken fabrication, fish cleaning and meat carving. Cook several dishes utilizing a variety of fabricated meat cuts and discuss the uses of meat bones in stock and broth making. Watch as Cook showcases a variety of knives, their purposes, and some basic knife sharpening techniques. Students can take home a special bone broth making kit. The course takes place Feb. 20.
Learn fun, creative, and flavorful six-ingredients-or-less-meals in Mindful Meal Prep. Cook will demonstrate how to plan, shop, prep and cook several days’ worth of meals. Explore a variety of cultural cuisines and styles of cooking and customize each dish to your liking. Students can choose a dish to eat during class and bring the rest home to fill up the fridge. Mindful Meal Prep takes place on March 28.
